Literature Text

It had only been a week since Nayrie had had her heart ripped to shreds by that new boy. She found out though, that his name was Rayn.

“Rayn. That’s such a cool name. But it’s also a synonym to rain, which is one thing I love almost more than drawing.” Nayrie mumbled to herself as she moped around her room. It was a colourless day. The sky was ash grey, her window blurred by tiny raindrops.

“If only maybe, I hadn’t gone up to him…” Nayrie remembered the day when the world came crashing down on her. She moaned, and got up off her bed. Moving slowly towards her desk, she tripped over a pile of textbooks. She hurtled towards the ground, and smashed her jaw against the edge of her desk. Crying out in pain, Nayrie ran, slightly dazed, over to her mirror.

Blood tricked out of a long cut across her cheek, dripping off her chin, and falling onto her white t-shirt, staining it with drops of red.

“AUGH!!” Nayrie exclaimed, running into the bathroom. She opened the water tap with such force it almost broke, splashing the cut with icy-cold water. Wincing from the pain, she opened the medicine cabinet with her free hand, and ripped out some bandages. She tore open one, and stuck it on her face.

“Stupid textbooks. I guess that’s what I get for being too lazy to move them.” Nayrie sighed, unimpressed.

Nayrie then heard her mother calling her for lunch, and dashed into the kitchen. She took her place, once again, behind the old wooden dining table, and waited patiently for her mother to bring out lunch.

“Today, we’re having sandwiches!” Her mother cheerfully announced as she immerged from the kitchen carrying a plate full of sandwiches. Tucked under her arm was a newspaper.

“Thanks.” Nayrie mumbled, and took a cheese and pepperoni sandwich from the towering stack. Connor then walked casually into the room, and sat down at his place, grabbing a turkey and onion sandwich. Stealing a glance at his sister, he opened his mouth to speak. “Zombie” he commented slyly as he watched her face turn red.

“Connor….” Their mother began, taking a cucumber and bologna sandwich, whilst giving her son a stern look.

“What? Those huge black rings underneath her eyes make her look like a total zombie!” Connor retorted innocently.  Nayrie refused to look away from her sandwich after that moment, blocking out his immature words.

“Hey, Mom, could I see that newspaper?” Nayrie asked, ignoring her little brother’s stares and gawking.

“Why of course, I was done with it already.” Her mother replied kindly.

Nayrie thanked her mother, than grabbed the newspaper, opening it to the index page. She paused to take a bite of her sandwich. “Murders? Wha?” Nayrie read the headlining text: “Murderers still at large, 4th disappearance this week may have a connection.”

“Mom, there have been murders around this area?” Nayrie asked her mother in disbelief.

“Yes, they must be quite the murderers, too, if they can escape the law like this! Rumour has it that those disappearances happening around town are linked to the murders. So, I’d advise you don’t go wandering around town alone, missy.” Her mother informed her, while stealing glances at her son stuffing his face with different sandwiches, and sighing.

Nayrie looked slightly worried, but didn’t really think much of it. “Wow. This sounds serious. I’ll be extra-careful, Mom!”  She replied, just to make her mom feel safe. “Seriously,” she thought. “Nobody’s going to kidnap Me.” She told herself over and over again, as she walked back to her room.

Monday morning came around the next day, the sunrise painting a colourful picture in the sky. Birds chirped outside Nayrie’s window. Her alarmed went off. Unwillingly, she slammed her hand down the clock’s sleep button, and pulling herself out of bed, to repeat the daily routine before heading to school.

Today, she was wearing a simple all-black summer dress with white troule all around the bottom. She now had bandages not only on her arm, but on her cheek now, too. Although, on both arms, she wore rainbow arm warmers, with two thin purple ribbons tied around her upper arms.

She was wearing the same laced boots again, only this time with plain white over-the-knee socks with two midnight blue ribbons tied to them.

“See ya, Mom! I’m leaving now! Love you lots!” Nayrie called behind her as she shrugged into her long black leather jacket once again, grabbing her black and white messenger bag full of school stuff, and then shutting the door behind her as she stepped out once more into the fresh, morning air.

She walked the short distance to school, and immediately her emotions attacked her, having caught her off-guard. Clenching her sides, she struggled to stay upright and moving forwards as she trudged through the streets, weary and depressed.

It took her 20 minutes longer than usual to get to school because of her emotional struggle, so she was 5 minutes late. Regaining her senses as she opened her locker, she threw her bag and coat in, and slammed it shut.

Speeding down the hallways, she almost smacked into somebody, apologizing hurriedly, then proceeding to dash into the classroom. She was in luck. She just realised that the second bell hadn’t gone yet, and just as she sat down at her desk, smiling at Mei, it rang, and the teacher walked in, beginning the lesson.

But Nayrie paid no attention to what he was saying. She was stuck behind Rayn’s head, dying inside because she was so close to him, yet so far.

“Nayrie, are you alright? Perhaps a visit to the school nurse is in order?” The teacher was in her face. “When did that happen? And how long had I been on the floor for? Did I suffer so much pain, I blacked out?” these thoughts ran through her mind like a runaway train, as she blushed a deep shade of pink, and whispered. “S-sorry, I fell out of my ch-chair… eheheh…” to her teacher, who gave her an odd look and walked back to the front of the class to continue teaching.

Rayn had noticed her on the floor before anybody else, and the teacher noticed his head turned and was about to yell at him for not paying attention, when he saw Nayrie instead, half on the floor, half in her chair with her eyes partly shut.

“I’m sorry, Nayrie…” He thought in his head. “I know I caused you to do that somehow. But, I just can’t bring myself to face her after what I did. In her eyes, I must seem like the most heartless jerk ever!” Rayn continued on with his self-pity, randomly scribbling on his paper, and jotting down the parts of the lesson that he actually heard.
I'll upload that picture of Nayrie, the main character, I drew tomorrow probably. :]

Nice chapter! =3 On the odd occasion, it's hard to tell one thing that's happening from the next, though. XD

"But Nayrie paid no attention to what he was saying. She was stuck behind Rayn’s head, dying inside because she was so close to him, yet so far."

What if you had put a few extra periods after the "Yet so far." so that it kinda trailed off, like so "Yet so far..."?

After that, I would have put some hashes or something to signal that one part was ending, and that something else was happening.

"But Nayrie paid no attention to what he was saying. She was stuck behind Rayn’s head, dying inside because she was so close to him, yet so far...

“Nayrie, are you alright? Perhaps a visit to the school nurse is in order?” The teacher was in her face."

If you don't want me to give critique, just tell me to shut up. XD I know that you didn't say you wanted any, so I'm sorry. :C
